When there is almost no hope left, all of a sudden a silver lining appears on the horizon:
From 'Operation - Save The Pretender':
Hi, there! Remember us?
October 23, 2002: The Main page is updated to request that we renew efforts to write and ask for a final movie. According to our sources, it could happen. We've moved the contact info for the networks to a single page called write. This should simplify both site maintenance and the ability of visitors to quickly find the data.
Yours in fandom,
Op - StP
 10-22-2002: Alchemy
I've contacted the producer of Alchemy, a movie project to which Michael T. Weiss' name is attached for quite some time, again, and here is his answer:

Evi,
Hello again, and thanks for your continued interest in ALCHEMY and related projects.
Evan Oppenheimer, the writer and future director of ALCHEMY is nearing completion of JUSTICE, a multi-story drama set in New York City which deals with the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Evan is very excited at how the film looks, and hopes to have it in some major film festivals very soon.
ALCHEMY may go into production in late spring, but it depends on many factors. I'm sorry I can't give you a more concrete answer than that.
Our best to you, and feel free to keep in touch.
Ken Schapiro

 8-18-2002: New Site Layout
A very "nice" person accused me in the Guestbook that the old layout was copied from another MTW website. Of course that was not the case, and of course I shouldn't be bothered by people whose sorry life's only joy seems to be annoying others. Well, it did bother me, so what else to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon than making a new layout for somebody else's site. And just in case anyone still has doubts: Isis and Evi are not the same person. I'd know that!
Isis - webmaster of this little show.
Please, send all further complaints about the layout and technical issues to isis_whit@yahoo.de. :)

 8-9-2002: Alchemy
I've contacted the producer of Alchemy again, but no news, according to the following e-mail:

Evi,
Nice to hear from you. Unfortunately, I have no updates regarding ALCHEMY. The writer/director Evan Oppenheimer is shooting a small movie right now on digital video. He's got quite a good cast, and it could be something special.
Obviously, if that raises his profile in the industry, then ALCHEMY has better prospects.
Best,
Ken Schapiro, Producer

 8-2-2002: Bones in Germany

 7-27-2002: Written in Blood
Excerpts from an email from David Keith Miller, who wrote the screenplay of Written in Blood:

"Peter Coyote plays the cerebral, brilliant but emotionally distant John Traveller, in jail for murder. Michael T. Weiss plays the emotional and intuitive but sloppy and depressed Matthew Ransom, Ransom had to be the younger actor because he almost has an affair with Traveller's daughter. Mr. Weiss is the leading chararacter and Mr. Coyote plays a large supporting role.
You see, I named the one character Traveller because he can't go anywhere, and also because "traveller" is a nickname sometimes given to messiahs. John Traveller is like a Christ who tries to take on the sins of his daughter, but unlike Christ he cannot succed in wiping away her sins and there will be no resurrection. At the end of the movie she dies cradled in his arms in the basement of a church underneath a statue of a Madonna and child. (At least, that's how she dies in my script. I don't know what the director did with it.) Many of the characters in the movie are named after the apostles -- John, Matthew, Luke, etc. The captain was originally Paul but the character was changed to a woman so I named her Paula. Luckily, no one noticed the Christian motif, so I don't think it was too heavy-handed. Matthew Ransom has that name because I liked the sound of it but also because he sometimes tries to ransom his self-respect by finding out other people's crimes.
I don't know the actress who plays Ransom's wife, Mary Magnuson (my version of Mary Magdeline). I don't think she's a star."

 7-14-2002: GBN recognizes Alumni 2001
Michael's old High School Glenbrook North presented him with the Alumni Award for 2001. From the office of Mrs. Judith B. Erickson came the following information:

"Yes, Michael T. Weiss (The Pretender) was our Alumnus of the year in the year 2001. In order to be chosen for this award you have to be at least a 20 yr. alum and be present at our Awards Ceremony held in May in order to accept the award. The award, in the form of a plaque is given to him by someone he remembers as an inspiring teacher when he attended Glenbrook North. His drama teacher, Mr. Gerald Murphy presented the award. A special luncheon in his honor was attended by him, his family and student guests to made the Awards Ceremony possible."

 7-10-2002: No 3rd Pretender movie

 5-28-2002: Written in Blood
Excerpts from an email from David Keith Miller, who wrote the screenplay of Written in Blood:
"Written in Blood" is a script I'm very proud of. It's the story of a detective, Matthew Ransom, who had to arrest his own partner, John Traveller, a brilliant detective, for the murder of Traveller's wife and her young lover. Ransom felt so much guilt at betraying his partner that he spiralled down into depression, started drinking, and broke up with his own wife. Now a serial killer is leaving references to Sherlock Holmes mysteries at the murder scenes, and Ransom is baffled. He visits the jail to ask the imprisoned Traveller to help him catch the killer. The partnership works pretty well, considering the strains between the two men -- but after a while, Ransom realizes Traveller isn't telling him everything he knows...
[...]
The script was rewritten somewhat by the director and I haven't seen the final version, so I don't know how much has been changed. Unfortunately, that sort of thing happens pretty frequently. I can only hope that he is as good a writer as I am, or better. I am assured that the story line is the same, though.
 5-18-2002: Alchemy and Marmelade
When asked about Alchemy by several German fans at the Pretender Convention in Paris, Michael replied something like "I wasn't signed", which translates to: "We are still in negotiations". He also said that he had just finished a movie called Marmalade, and that he wants to do a play on Broadway later this year.
